mind games

I'm not going to lie, I am totally nervous about this whole Swine Flu thing. Yesterday morning, I was like 'whatever' and I really wasn't paying much attention to it, but now that it might be on my college campus... that's too close for comfort.

What makes me even more nervous is that I have a stomach condition where I feel sick a lot (I'm feel a little queasy right now actually) and I'm trying to not psych myself out. On my twitter I said "the hardest thing about this swine flu thing is not letting your mind convince you that an upset stomach = swine flu.." and it's sooo totally true.

I think as a society we've become so conditioned to the fact that most talk about health is negative talk and usually happens after somebody has been diagnosed with some disease. For example, last term I found a lump and my mind instantly went to cancer and then I had to work myself down from the 'omg omg omg omg what am I going to do' fit I put myself in.

I'm headed to bed now because it's the only thing I can do at this point. I've been able to come down off my not minor but not major freakout from earlier this evening and I've decided that going to sleep is the best choice in this case, cause I know I'll feel better in the morning.

P.S. Totally loving this open letter to Theo Epstein, especially the part about my homeboy Jed Lowrie.. the "Aw, shucks" part just tickles me to death.. cause we aren't from a hick town or a farm town haha we're from a good sized city (though it is a small town at heart...)

Look at how the Nation embraced Lowrie last year when Lugo went down. ... We really just liked that Lowrie fellow. He’s named “Jed” for cryin’ out loud! You don’t get much more adorable and homegrown and “Aw, shucks” than that! We mourned when he got hurt, and we sincerely hope that he’s getting all the therapuetic ice pops he can handle...

P.S.S. that whole small town heart thing is totally true... a couple weeks ago a guy came into the place where I work and I was putting something away and he looked at me and I looked at him and I thought he looked familar and wrote him off as a friend of one of my aunts or uncles and he goes 'if I guessed your last name was *********, would I be correct?' and I told him yeah that was my last name and then he told me that he was a friend of my uncles and then he goes 'and your name is...' and he kinda went through the list of names in my family cause I heard him say my aunt Kim's name and he finally goes 'Rebecca?' and I'm like yup. So then after he left my coworker comes up to me and she likes 'You're a *********, aren't you?' then we both laughed... she thought it was amusing and it was the first time she'd ever seen that happen to somebody, but I grew up in the same city that my dad and his 4 siblings grew up in and my grandpa grew up in... it's crazy.

P.S.S.S. We have this running joke with my dad that started a couple years ago when he would meet people at Starbucks and find out that he dated their mom/aunt and we'll bring it up every now and then when he talks about somebody he met at Starbucks... he doesn't think it's very funny but my sibs, my mom and I find it hilarious

P.S.S.S.S. Ok really going to be now! Night.
