School has started again and I'm officially in my 6th year of college. Crazy, I know. My classes very between boringly easy and challenging. None of them are hard per-say, but I'm taking an art class and I'm not the best artist. It's a design basics class and I've drawn a couple things that I really like and I'm actually considering taking the color portion of the class next term, but we'll see.
But the most exciting part of the new school year is college football. It started out a little rough for my Oregon Ducks, but they've pulled things together and I think it's going to be a great season. My Oregon State Beavers are doing pretty good too, as are my Texas Longhorns. This Saturday all three teams will be playing, but next Saturday it'll just be the Longhorns and I can cheer them to victory against the sooners.
Even better is that Jed and the Red Sox are in the post season! They lost last night in a game with two shitty miss calls in the Angels' favor, but I know the Red Sox can come back. If they win tonight and the two games in Boston they won't have to come back to the East coast. My prediction is that it'll be the Red Sox vs the yankees for the ALCS.
I went to the orthodontist yesterday and they only took off a bracket and repositioned it, but it feels like they tightened the wires on my braces 250% on the bottom. I know the pain will go away in a couple days, but it's hard to eat. They also set me up to use rubber bands and I'm supposed to wear them day and night except when I'm eating or brushing my teeth. So there's another new thing to figure out. But I can already see the difference in my teeth and I'm really glad I didn't give up when I first got them on. I'm sort of hoping they'll tell me in 6 months that I'll be getting them off in 6 more months. I would be very happy about that.
My birthday is in 16 days... I'll be 24 years old.... it just doesn't seem possible. Where has the time gone? The kids that were in kindergarten when I was in fifth grade are freshmen in college. Little kids that I babysat are in high school. My baby sister is a sophomore in high school, going to dances, looking for a job, failing permit tests, wanting to go out on dates. It doesn't seem right. I'm excited but not really excited for my birthday.... there are other things I'm excited for this year: the arrival of baby Samuel on the 22nd (please bring him 100% healthy, lord), Thanksgiving with my Aunt Kim from Australia for the first time since I was 5/6(?), the arrival of a yet-to-be-determined baby in April.
I'm going to attempt to update this thing more often, because I suck at it. I've never been that great at keeping a journal/blog thing, which is strange when you think about it because I love to write and, honestly, I love to talk. But there has always been this 'what should I write about' thing that keeps me from doing it. So it's turned out to be more of a ranting place more than anything else. Maybe it's that I want to have transitions between the paragraphs, but most of the time they have nothing to do with each other and seem like random blobs of text.
Now to get some homework done before I take my sister downtown, run to the college to drop off paperwork and pick up my new glasses.

I'm not going to lie, I am totally nervous about this whole Swine Flu thing. Yesterday morning, I was like 'whatever' and I really wasn't paying much attention to it, but now that it might be on my college campus... that's too close for comfort.
What makes me even more nervous is that I have a stomach condition where I feel sick a lot (I'm feel a little queasy right now actually) and I'm trying to not psych myself out. On my twitter I said "the hardest thing about this swine flu thing is not letting your mind convince you that an upset stomach = swine flu.." and it's sooo totally true.
I think as a society we've become so conditioned to the fact that most talk about health is negative talk and usually happens after somebody has been diagnosed with some disease. For example, last term I found a lump and my mind instantly went to cancer and then I had to work myself down from the 'omg omg omg omg what am I going to do' fit I put myself in.
I'm headed to bed now because it's the only thing I can do at this point. I've been able to come down off my not minor but not major freakout from earlier this evening and I've decided that going to sleep is the best choice in this case, cause I know I'll feel better in the morning.
P.S. Totally loving this open letter to Theo Epstein, especially the part about my homeboy Jed Lowrie.. the "Aw, shucks" part just tickles me to death.. cause we aren't from a hick town or a farm town haha we're from a good sized city (though it is a small town at heart...)
P.S.S. that whole small town heart thing is totally true... a couple weeks ago a guy came into the place where I work and I was putting something away and he looked at me and I looked at him and I thought he looked familar and wrote him off as a friend of one of my aunts or uncles and he goes 'if I guessed your last name was *********, would I be correct?' and I told him yeah that was my last name and then he told me that he was a friend of my uncles and then he goes 'and your name is...' and he kinda went through the list of names in my family cause I heard him say my aunt Kim's name and he finally goes 'Rebecca?' and I'm like yup. So then after he left my coworker comes up to me and she likes 'You're a *********, aren't you?' then we both laughed... she thought it was amusing and it was the first time she'd ever seen that happen to somebody, but I grew up in the same city that my dad and his 4 siblings grew up in and my grandpa grew up in... it's crazy.
P.S.S.S. We have this running joke with my dad that started a couple years ago when he would meet people at Starbucks and find out that he dated their mom/aunt and we'll bring it up every now and then when he talks about somebody he met at Starbucks... he doesn't think it's very funny but my sibs, my mom and I find it hilarious
P.S.S.S.S. Ok really going to be now! Night.

Look at how the Nation embraced Lowrie last year when Lugo went down. ... We really just liked that Lowrie fellow. He’s named “Jed” for cryin’ out loud! You don’t get much more adorable and homegrown and “Aw, shucks” than that! We mourned when he got hurt, and we sincerely hope that he’s getting all the therapuetic ice pops he can handle...

I'm not exactly sure what possessed me to start a blog, but here I am. I'll warn anybody who stumbles across this ahead of time: I just write what comes to mind, there really is no rhyme or reason for the way I do things.
This last week has been a rollercoast of emotions for me and not for the better.
I was rearended on Saturday and I find myself very nervous when I'm driving with somebody in front of me and someone behind me, especially when it comes to stopping. I keep getting these flashbacks of seeing the car coming towards me through my rearview mirror and not being able to prepare my sister for impact before it happened.
I think my reaction from the accident and the stress from my classes and my irritation with my senior portfolio advisor is what had me in tears on Tuesday night... my brain was so fried that night that I couldn't think straight and I couldn't make my mind up about anything. The only thing that helped was realizing that I could drop one class and still have my required 12 credits.. of course that means I'll be able to walk in June, but I won't officially be done until this summer after I take one last class.
Things have gotten better with the advisor, too. I took my overview to her for the third time and she finally approved it (woohoo!). Then she and I talked for a minute or so about things I should and shouldn't do when writing my paper and I actually feel more comfortable with the whole thing, which is a major plus.
I'm watching/listening to the Boston Red Sox game right now, I feel like a bad fan because I tend to turn off the game if Jed Lowrie isn't playing, but he's currently on the DL (hopefully back for the Sunday game against the Mariners in May) and I decided that I should still support the sox. Speaking of the Mariner game, my brother and I are playing with ideas oh what we could put on our signs. There's the obvious "We're from Salem, OR and we love Lowrie" or "North Salem Viking Pride," but we'll see.
So, I bought an epilator but I haven't decided if I like it yet. I've only used it on one leg so far, mostly cause I'm too lazy to do the other right now, but yeah my leg feels only slightly better than the couple times I dry shaved and there are red bumps all over my legs, but the little booklet said that those should clear up with regular use. I think I'll probably go to the naturalist store this weekend and see if I can find some after shave lotion or something that will help sooth the redness.
I saw 17 Again with my friend Crystal today... it was a pretty cute movie. I will admit that Zefron looked pretty hot in it, though he'll never be hotter than Corbin Bleu in my book, but I don't necessarily think it lived up to the all hype that it got. Which makes me wonder if that it was given a lot of hype becuase maybe it wouldn't have done as well with out it. But whatever... it was a cute movie, I'll probably get it on Netflix and watch it again but I doubt I'll buy it.
Mmmk, I'm done for now... gotta get started on all my homework.
