mind games

I'm not going to lie, I am totally nervous about this whole Swine Flu thing. Yesterday morning, I was like 'whatever' and I really wasn't paying much attention to it, but now that it might be on my college campus... that's too close for comfort.

What makes me even more nervous is that I have a stomach condition where I feel sick a lot (I'm feel a little queasy right now actually) and I'm trying to not psych myself out. On my twitter I said "the hardest thing about this swine flu thing is not letting your mind convince you that an upset stomach = swine flu.." and it's sooo totally true.

I think as a society we've become so conditioned to the fact that most talk about health is negative talk and usually happens after somebody has been diagnosed with some disease. For example, last term I found a lump and my mind instantly went to cancer and then I had to work myself down from the 'omg omg omg omg what am I going to do' fit I put myself in.

I'm headed to bed now because it's the only thing I can do at this point. I've been able to come down off my not minor but not major freakout from earlier this evening and I've decided that going to sleep is the best choice in this case, cause I know I'll feel better in the morning.

P.S. Totally loving this open letter to Theo Epstein, especially the part about my homeboy Jed Lowrie.. the "Aw, shucks" part just tickles me to death.. cause we aren't from a hick town or a farm town haha we're from a good sized city (though it is a small town at heart...)

Look at how the Nation embraced Lowrie last year when Lugo went down. ... We really just liked that Lowrie fellow. He’s named “Jed” for cryin’ out loud! You don’t get much more adorable and homegrown and “Aw, shucks” than that! We mourned when he got hurt, and we sincerely hope that he’s getting all the therapuetic ice pops he can handle...

P.S.S. that whole small town heart thing is totally true... a couple weeks ago a guy came into the place where I work and I was putting something away and he looked at me and I looked at him and I thought he looked familar and wrote him off as a friend of one of my aunts or uncles and he goes 'if I guessed your last name was *********, would I be correct?' and I told him yeah that was my last name and then he told me that he was a friend of my uncles and then he goes 'and your name is...' and he kinda went through the list of names in my family cause I heard him say my aunt Kim's name and he finally goes 'Rebecca?' and I'm like yup. So then after he left my coworker comes up to me and she likes 'You're a *********, aren't you?' then we both laughed... she thought it was amusing and it was the first time she'd ever seen that happen to somebody, but I grew up in the same city that my dad and his 4 siblings grew up in and my grandpa grew up in... it's crazy.

P.S.S.S. We have this running joke with my dad that started a couple years ago when he would meet people at Starbucks and find out that he dated their mom/aunt and we'll bring it up every now and then when he talks about somebody he met at Starbucks... he doesn't think it's very funny but my sibs, my mom and I find it hilarious

P.S.S.S.S. Ok really going to be now! Night.

Sun is out!

The sun is out and feels oh so very nice... according to my iGoogle page it's 66 degrees and we're supposed to get to 74 degrees. I went outside for about an hour to study and I ended up sunbathing instead... oops... so I've come back in side to finish my homework... but I think I might have added to my post-Hawaii tan from January... which leads me to wonder, is there anyway to reverse a farms tan? Cause you can clearly see mine from my cap sleeved shirt I wore on the balcony of our hotel room when we were in Hawaii... and I was seriously only out there for about 15 minutes. It's crazy.

Dropping that class has eased the stress of school for my by ten fold, I kid you not. Though, it had also made it possible for me to screw off and procrastinate to the point that I didn't study at all Friday (went to see the movie), I didn't study Saturday (I spent the whole day working on the revamp of my fiction site and I did a little bit of studying yesterday before I started working on my website again. That said, I have all the reading and assignments done for the week for two of my classes and I got the reading and journal thing done for my third class's Tuesday session and all I have left for this week assignment wise is to read the stuff for my third class's Thursday session and write the journal. And I'm going to make myself work on my paper for my health class and work on my portfolio paper since I have to have a rough draft (at least 5 pages) by next week.

I've decided that I love my epilator, but only for my legs. It works brillantly and now that I have some awesome lotion it's awesome. My legs look great and the feel really smooth :-D I tried it on my underarms yesterday and it didn't work at all... looks like I'll have to stick with the razor and shaving cream in the shower... which isn't bad, it's already part of my shower routine.

Alright... time to get back to the homework so I can work on my website again.

Here I Am

I'm not exactly sure what possessed me to start a blog, but here I am. I'll warn anybody who stumbles across this ahead of time: I just write what comes to mind, there really is no rhyme or reason for the way I do things.

This last week has been a rollercoast of emotions for me and not for the better.

I was rearended on Saturday and I find myself very nervous when I'm driving with somebody in front of me and someone behind me, especially when it comes to stopping. I keep getting these flashbacks of seeing the car coming towards me through my rearview mirror and not being able to prepare my sister for impact before it happened.

I think my reaction from the accident and the stress from my classes and my irritation with my senior portfolio advisor is what had me in tears on Tuesday night... my brain was so fried that night that I couldn't think straight and I couldn't make my mind up about anything. The only thing that helped was realizing that I could drop one class and still have my required 12 credits.. of course that means I'll be able to walk in June, but I won't officially be done until this summer after I take one last class.

Things have gotten better with the advisor, too. I took my overview to her for the third time and she finally approved it (woohoo!). Then she and I talked for a minute or so about things I should and shouldn't do when writing my paper and I actually feel more comfortable with the whole thing, which is a major plus.

I'm watching/listening to the Boston Red Sox game right now, I feel like a bad fan because I tend to turn off the game if Jed Lowrie isn't playing, but he's currently on the DL (hopefully back for the Sunday game against the Mariners in May) and I decided that I should still support the sox. Speaking of the Mariner game, my brother and I are playing with ideas oh what we could put on our signs. There's the obvious "We're from Salem, OR and we love Lowrie" or "North Salem Viking Pride," but we'll see.

So, I bought an epilator but I haven't decided if I like it yet. I've only used it on one leg so far, mostly cause I'm too lazy to do the other right now, but yeah my leg feels only slightly better than the couple times I dry shaved and there are red bumps all over my legs, but the little booklet said that those should clear up with regular use. I think I'll probably go to the naturalist store this weekend and see if I can find some after shave lotion or something that will help sooth the redness.

I saw 17 Again with my friend Crystal today... it was a pretty cute movie. I will admit that Zefron looked pretty hot in it, though he'll never be hotter than Corbin Bleu in my book, but I don't necessarily think it lived up to the all hype that it got. Which makes me wonder if that it was given a lot of hype becuase maybe it wouldn't have done as well with out it. But whatever... it was a cute movie, I'll probably get it on Netflix and watch it again but I doubt I'll buy it.

Mmmk, I'm done for now... gotta get started on all my homework.
